Morning Session
Managing and Processing Data from Natural History Collection

One of the major goals of the SwissCollNet initiative is to promote digitization of natural history collections. Many projects have started or are about to start in your institutions. Through exchanges on practical experiences, we would like to support you in the management and preparation of collection data. To share best practice experiences, presentations followed by forum discussions will take place on data standards (Darwin Core, ABCD-EFG), identifiers, vocabularies, thesauri, data management systems etc.
With this, SwissCollNet wishes to facilitate the integration of the data into your own Collection Management Systems and to facilitate data transfer to the future Swiss data aggregator. Furthermore, we would like to inform you about the state of the art regarding the building of the common data aggregator and display of collection data in Switzerland.

Afternoon session
Building the National Strategy for Natural History Collections in Switzerland 2025-2035

SwissCollNet seeks to promote the scientific potential of Swiss natural history collections for research, education and society as well as to foster the development, maintenance and financial support of natural history collections within the framework of a common and widely endorsed national strategy.
Thanks to the input of 26 Swiss institutions, the priorities and challenges for institutional collections as well as the required key actions for a successful national collection strategy have been defined in 2019.
The afternoon session of the workshop is therefore meant to present the drafted strategy and then, to discuss and sharpen it with the support of the Swiss network of natural history collection that you will represent. Do not miss this opportunity to make your voice heard!

The group discussions will take place around the themes:

  • Empowering the Swiss network on natural history collections for the future
  • Promoting Swiss natural history collections as a research tool
  • Valorising Swiss natural history collections as a training, educational and cultural resource
